A Shopify Alternative for a Shop with a Counter

How an Indian shop can use free offline billing now and a hosted store later, instead of one subscription that assumes the website is the centre.

Shopify is built as a website that also has a POS. A lot of Indian shops are a counter that might add a website. Those are different starting points.

If the counter has to keep billing when the line drops, start there. Add the hosted store when an online order should take the same stock.

Start on the counter

POS Lite is free billing software for Windows, macOS, and Android. It does not need a server to finish a sale. Scan a barcode, take cash, print a receipt, and keep size and colour stock on that device. The bill is a tax invoice with one tax rate. It does not file a GST return.

Cloud Sync is ₹299 a month when up to three devices should share those bills, about every hour, with seven daily snapshots in India time.

Add a hosted store when the website is real

Connected POS is ₹10,000 setup and ₹600 a month: a hosted Medusa backend and the POS, with no website. Website is ₹25,000 setup and ₹1,200 a month: the storefront, without the POS. Commerce, named POS + Website, is ₹35,000 setup and ₹1,800 a month when the counter and the site share one catalogue.

If you already host Medusa yourself, Connected POS against that server is ₹450 a month. The server needs medusa-pos-plugin 0.0.24 or newer.

Neosell advertises an Indian POS and an online store on the same inventory. That is the same decision Commerce is for. The free counter is a separate step, so you do not pay for a website on the first Saturday.

The plan list, with the same prices, is on the Shopify alternative page and on pricing. Offline behaviour is on Cloud Sync.
